Love at First Sight!!!
After seeing the PT Cruiser in a Fall 1999 issue of Car and Driver and then following all progress of this rad new concept vehicle - We knew this was to be our First "New Car". Sending in a postcard from Chrysler for more info, the ball was in motion. A promise was made to clear out all old cars in the Driveway/Garage. On April 25th 2000 the Order was placed for a 2001 Limited Edition Aztec Yellow PT Cruiser. The Yellow never released and we then choose Silver. Sept 25th 2000 - 5 months to the day - we were CRUISIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

***Long Term Test****
With only a couple of trips to Click and Clack, Silvia is Purring like a Silver Kitten @ 18,000 comfort is primo. 25MPG is common on highway jaunts, felt tubby last winter, drove it everyday. Touring suspension feels a bit stiff, 16" wheels help, but short wheelbase does not.
At 30,000 miles this car's been flawless. Dependable through 2 South Dakota winters, her daily drive of 30 miles has been pure pleasure. This New-Age Retromobile has the styling of the late 30's combined with safety features of today. The 4 cylinder provides plenty of jump off the line, redlines at 6000, and hustles right along without tearing up the asphalt. She's not designed for hi-end torque, but seems plenty punchy for this 41 year old male. If Service and Sales at our Chrysler dealer matched the performance of our Cruiser, we'd have another PT in the house. For now, her shade-shifting flame job will keep us amused. Mileage has been 22-25, brakes are superb (even with No ABS and rear drums) handling is tight. Turning radius is huge, but she has a fat stance, suitable for SD Winter driving and looking good. Build quality is more Daimler than Chrysler. It's quite a Car!

50,000 miles is coming up fast. Our Silver PT Cruiser feels like a champ, running new Dunlops and her trademark shade shifting flames. Sylvia continues to ride well, turn big and daily drive in fine style. No real problems have held her back. A few cursory checks of transmission, and tire wobble diagnosed as out of round GoodYears and of course regular oil changes. K&N Air Filter has been cleaned once, looking good. Sparkplugs were replaced at 30,000 as required. Brakes were looking reasonable, with another 20,000 in the picture. Road Noise is lessened by the larger than O.E. 255/50/16 and wobble disappeared. Center caps were corroding one was unusable, all 4 were replaced at 22.00 Ea. They do dress the factory mags nicely. Acceleration is fine, Silvia scoots down the road quickly and passes easily. Custom Ah-Oogah grabs attention, personalized brake lite and extra window tint dress her out. CD/Tape player make the drive fun.
Limited package bumped the base price but fill the car up with a host of options, making her a pleasure to cruise. Silvia is the total package price, usability, safe, dependable, all in a flashy wrapper.
